money, Lucía was able to change her life. She sent some of it to Oaxaca, had her parents’ house repaired, and financed her brother’s university studies. As for herself, she decided not to rely on this “good fortune” and worked hard: she studied diligently, completed an internship, and then found a job at a financial company. Intelligent and persistent,

she quickly rose from temporary employee to team leader.

Despite everything, deep down, Lucía remained haunted by that night. For her, it was an indelible stain. Every time she thought about that envelope, she felt both shame and gratitude. The strangest thing was that, for seven years, this man never looked for her.

Now that she had become an independent and accomplished woman, Mauricio wondered whether he should

approach her or remain silent forever.

Lucía, understanding the story, felt anger, but also relief. That “million pesos” that had tormented her so much was not the price to pay for her dignity, but rather the reflection of the guilt of a man who had made a mistake.

Finally, she decided to forgive him. Looking him straight in the eyes, she said firmly, continue reading …
