Lily’s recovery stunned the medical team.
Within hours, she was responding to questions. Within days, she could sit with assistance. Her speech became clearer, and every new scan contradicted the hopeless predictions made only a week earlier.
Dr. Shaw called it an unexplained medical event.
Other specialists used words like extraordinary, unprecedented, and impossible.
Adrian called it a miracle.
But one question haunted him.
Who was Noah Mercer?
Hospital security searched the building.
No child matching Adrian’s description had been admitted, registered, or reported missing.
A guard reviewed the security recordings.
Adrian stood beside him in the cramped monitoring room.
The footage showed Adrian outside Lily’s room on the afternoon they first met.
He appeared to turn toward someone.
He spoke.
He listened.
Then he opened the door and allowed empty air to enter ahead of him.
The guard replayed the scene.
“There’s no one there, Mr. Cole.”
“There was a boy.”
“I believe you saw someone. But the camera didn’t record him.”
They reviewed the footage from the following morning.
Again, Adrian appeared to walk beside no one.
Inside Lily’s room, the chair moved slightly across the floor without anyone touching it.
The image flickered just before Lily awakened.
For less than a second, a pale shape stood beside her bed.
Then it vanished.
Adrian left the security office with shaking hands.
He had never believed in spirits, miracles, or messages from beyond the life he understood.
But he had felt Noah’s presence.
He had heard his voice.
And Lily had awakened.
