“I was thinking about selling the shop,” he admitted softly.
“I felt like a failure.”
Mariam looked at him in shock.
He lowered his eyes before continuing:
“But today… when I saw her laughing… I don’t know. For the first time in months, I felt like maybe I shouldn’t give up yet.”
Mariam held his hand gently.
“Sometimes,” she said, “children fix things adults cannot.”
Days passed, and Layan’s funny hairstyle became a tradition in the house.
Whenever Samer came home tired or discouraged, Mariam would style Layan’s hair the same silly way.
And every single time, the little girl would laugh so hard that Samer could not help laughing with her.
Slowly, something inside him began to change.
He stopped talking about giving up.
He started working harder at the shop again.
He repaired old phones for cheap prices, treated customers kindly, and even created a social media page to post his work online.
Little by little, customers started returning.
Months later, the small repair shop that was once close to shutting down became successful again.
One afternoon, a local journalist visited the shop to write a story about its surprising comeback.
Before leaving, the journalist asked Samer:
“What made you keep going when everything was falling apart?”
Samer smiled quietly.
Then he pointed toward a framed picture hanging behind the counter.
It was a photo of baby Layan with her ridiculous curly hairstyle and her giant happy smile.
“She did,” he answered softly.
“My daughter reminded me that sometimes happiness is something very small… with tiny hands and a loud laugh.” 💖
