My Husband Came Home from a ‘Business Trip’ with ‘CHEATER!’ Sunburned Across His Back – I Used It to My Advantage
For ten minutes, Grant did not respond.
Then my phone buzzed.
“Who is this?”
I smiled despite the nausea twisting my stomach.
“You know who this is.”
Three dots appeared, disappeared, and appeared again.
“Tessa?”
“So that was her name,” I thought.
I had expected another excuse or perhaps an angry denial. Instead, Grant had identified her immediately.
I typed slowly.
“Who else would it be?”
His reply came almost at once.
“I told you not to contact me again.”
I stared at those words.
The note had sounded apologetic. It had suggested that this woman had discovered the truth and turned against him.
Yet Grant’s response made it clear they had spoken after she learned about me.
Perhaps she had confronted him.
Perhaps he had threatened her.
I needed to know more before I decided what to do.
“Why?” I typed. “Worried your wife might find out?”
Grant did not answer.
That evening, he came home 20 minutes late.
I was chopping vegetables when he entered the kitchen.
“Long day?” I asked.
“You have no idea,” he said.
He placed his phone face down on the counter.
Usually, Grant left it wherever he happened to drop it. That night, he carried it from room to room.
During dinner, he barely ate.
“Are you feeling okay?” I asked.
“Just tired.”
“You slept all night.”
“I said I’m tired, Rachel.”
His sharp tone surprised me.
Grant immediately softened his voice.
“Sorry. Work is still a mess after the trip.”
I looked at him across the table.
“Was the conference worth it?”
He hesitated for less than a second.
“Probably. We may land a major account.”
“I’m glad.”
He smiled weakly and reached for his water.
That night, he changed in the bathroom with the door closed.
He had discovered the word.
I wondered whether he had seen it in the mirror or felt the strange edges of the burn. Either way, he came to bed wearing a T-shirt despite the warm weather.
I pretended not to notice.
The next morning, I sent another message.
“We need to talk.”
Grant replied within seconds.
“There is nothing to talk about.”
“You lied to me for five days…” I typed.
“It was a mistake.”
“A mistake? You booked a resort and told me you were single.”
He took several minutes to respond.
“You knew what this was.”
My stomach dropped.
That did not sound like a man who had fooled an innocent woman for three days. It sounded like a man trying to rewrite what had happened.
I decided I needed to find Tessa.
The lounge receipt listed the resort, and the beach wristband included a small printed event name, “Coastal Wellness Weekend.”
I searched social media for photos posted from the event.
